The status, well being and security for any person in Ireland during the 18th and 19th Century depended almost entirely on the land. Land meant power. From the Landed Gentry with many thousands of acres gaining an income from those farming the land, to the farmer with only the smallest patch of land to harvest barely enough potatoes each year to feed his family.


What we will try to do in this section is create an impression of what life was like for three types of people in Irish Society in the 1800's. The three people are a Landlord, Tenant Farmer and Landless labourer.
